A few weekends ago, David and I had a chance to get away for the weekend to the mountains. I had been planning this trip for two months (ten years) and could hardly stand when Saturday morning came and we were pulling away from Nana and Papa's house! The down side, it was raining!! All this planning and it was raining. Well, I would say we really made the best of it.
We stopped in Boone for an AMAZING family style lunch that really does not get any more Southern at the Daniel Boone Inn. The food is to die for and it ends in banana pudding! Sign me up for that!
After that we checked into our cabin, and then went to Linville Caverns. David had never been and I really wanted to check it out.

and these trout swam in one place. They didn't move! It was crazy! Apparently after 2 years, they go blind being in the cave.
This totally looks like a booger, but it's a stalagmite. Very cool!
More stalagmites. They also talked to us about there only being two places in the world where you can experience total darkness. One of those places is in a cave. They turned off the lights and it was pure darkness. Apparently in total darkness, your eyes never adjust and you eventually go blind!! Oh my goodness, lights please!
After the caverns, we went to dinner and had a fabulous time talking and reconnecting. They had live music and we had fun singing some old songs. There is no rain in the forecast for Sunday to explore the rest of the mountains!
